What do they do?

Quarry Bank Mill provides students with the opportunity to explore the Industrial Revolution and what it was like to be a factory worker in Victorian times. They show how cloth is made and how water and steam can be used to drive machinery. The Mill contains working machinery and demonstrations of traditional skills.

What do they offer to schools?

Schools can visit the Pauper House which was home to the pauper children who worked in the mill, the Apprentice House is a recreated ‘home’ where students can experience life in the past.

School groups can also explore the environment which includes dipping in the pond in their accessible outdoor learning area to studying the oxbow in the Northern Woods. Their environment workshops explore the river, pond and woodland, habitats providing a fantastic geographical and scientific learning resource.
